What is Tizen OS?

Tizen is a mobile operating system like Android, iOS etc. The Tizen is a Linux based smartphone operating system which is developed and used by the Samsung Electronics. And we all know that Samsung has merged its previous OS Bada into Tizen. The Tizen OS has been used mainly on platforms like wearable watches, bands and in Smart TVs of Samsung.

Tizen OS powers a lot of Samsung devices like Galaxy Fit 2 Pro & Galaxy Watch Active.  And they also experimented the Tizen OS with the Samsung Z-series phones.

Samsung declared to use Tizen OS with their TVs for now:

As I mentioned that when the Samsung collaborate with the Google for developing a new version for their watches i.e. Wear OS. And Samsung mentioned that it will took place of the Tizen OS in wearables, and this new WearOS will begin with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series.

This leads to strong rumors around the people’s mind that Samsung is going to stop the Tizen platform altogether and going to use the Wear OS in all platforms. But it’s not true as Samsung confirmed that “ Tizen OS lives and will continue to use in the Samsung TVs platform”.

Further spokesperson of Samsung added that “Tizen is still the default platform for their smart TVs”. This is all the details which is confirmed by Samsung till now, which means that the Samsung & Google collaboration is right now only working for the development of Wear OS.

Why Samsung choose the Wear OS?

Samsung did makes some Android powered wearable in the history. But from 2014, the Samsung has only used their self-developed OS (Tizen) and also expanded its use over all platforms from TVs, Home appliances to smartphones.

Now after this long six years, Samsung decided to return to Android for its smartwatches. Definitely it will fix its one of the important disadvantage of Tizen OS which is Third Party Support. Samsung, in order to make their consumers get same familiar look and feel. The Samsung Watches will offer OneUI out of the box which will offer its own functionality with its Core features.

It’s definitely a winning situation for the Samsung and its consumer. As they will solve their problem of Third Party Support with Wear OS and consumer will get the same look, feel and features by One UI. And Samsung don’t need again and again to develop their applications for Tizen OS.

Conclusion:

Chooosing Wear OS is a good move by the Samsung. For now, the Samsung will continue to use Tizen OS on the TVs platform. But it doesn’t mean that Samsung will never switch to the Google platform.

I think that there is possibility for the future that it will switch to Google, but for now you can continue to watch Samsung TVs powered by the Tizen.
