Twitter India is served notice by Delhi Police under Toolkit Case .

After complaint filed by the Two congress leaders on 18th May. The Delhi police writes letter to the Twitter to seek knowledge about decision of labelling tweets by members of BJP [Bharatiya Janata Party] about Illegal toolkit.

In a blog, Twitter explains that “Manipulated media label” is given to those media which cheats people about the origin of content.

In order to fight with the misinformation ahead of US 2020 presidential election. In February 2020, the Twitter declared that it would label tweets with “manipulated label”

Twitter discover three step method test to ascertain whether it would label “manipulated media” tag or not.

Facebook:

On Tuesday Facebook says that they are working to implement the New IT rules that will come to effect from 26th May. However, the Facebook also requests to discuss a few of the issues which need more engagement with government.

Facebook promised to remains committed to people ability to express themselves on their platforms freely & safely.

Koo Indian App:

Koo is the only first Indian app to complied with New IT rules introduced by MEITy. Sources says “None of top social media app has appointed a resident grievance officer,   chief compliance officer and nodal contact person yet.

Koo has a user base of 6 million (60lakh) which makes it a major social media intermediary under New IT Act gudelines.

What is New IT ACT by MEITy?

As per the New IT Act by MEITy, it states that the social media platforms will need to appoint the compliance officers form India. This compliance officer will overlook the complaints, monitor the content shared in their platform and remove the objectionable contents.

This rules aren’t applicable to the social media but also to OTT platforms like Amazon Prime, Netflix etc.

The OTT platforms will have to appoint the redressal officer from India who will take care of the consumer complaints and act to those problems within 15 days. The govt. has a view that social media platforms don’t have a code of self-regulation. Therefore, govt. of India wants companies to form a committee to regulate the contents.

This formed committee will have sole power to take actions against complaints of violation of codes.

This new rules are introduced by Indian Govt. in order to make Social Media apps like facebook. Twitter and Instagram etc. more accountable. Another reason for the new IT Act and guidelines is to undermines the sovereignty of India, security or public order.

Conclusion:

As per my views, I know the fact that apps like facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp have a huge user base. But all US Based social media platforms grown because of us “INDIA”. Thanks to our huge population. However despite of our support, this apps didn’t shown any incline towards India’s domestic law.

So I think it’s fair and good step taken by the Indian Government. The Apps should be accountable to us regarding complaints and should maintain security and sovereignty of India.
